The number of polio virus cases in Pakistan has risen to 59 in the current year with three new cases reported, raising serious concerns according to the National Institute of Health (NIH). The cases are distributed across various regions including Balochistan, Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, Sindh, Islamabad, and Punjab. Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic, with ongoing challenges from militant activities targeting vaccination efforts.
Alarming rise in polio cases being witnessed as three new cases of polio were reported in Pakistan. The total number of polio virus cases rose to 59 during current year, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Tuesday.
During current year of 2024, 26 polio cases were reported from Balochistan, 16 from Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, 15 from Sindh while one each case of polio was reported from Islamabad and Punjab.
