LAHORE – The federal government has announced two consecutive public holidays in mid-July 2024 to observe Ashura
Pakistan will have two public holidays in mid-July 2024 for Ashura.If the moon is sighted on July 6, Muharram 1 will be on July 7., which falls on Muharram 9 and 10. These holidays have been added to Pakistan’s official holiday calendar for 2024.
The exact dates for the Ashura holidays will be determined based on the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s decision regarding the sighting of the Muharram moon.If the Muharram moon is sighted on July 6, the first Muharram will be observed on July 7.Public holidays will be on July 15 and 16 .If the Muharram moon is sighted on July 7, the first Muharram will be observed on July 8.Public holidays will be on July 16 and 17 .
These holidays provide an opportunity for people across Pakistan to commemorate Ashura, a significant event in the Islamic calendar.
