Cuba names prime minister in move to lighten presidential load
HAVANA – Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday named tourism minister Manuel Marrero Cruz as the country’s first prime minister in decades, under a new constitution that seeks to decentralise former leader Fidel Castro’s job.
Marrero, tourism minister for 15 years, presided over the growth of the industry into Cuba’s most important, with dozens of partnerships with foreign companies and broad connections with the growing private sector. “The head of government will be the administrative right hand of the president of the republic,” the state-run Cubadebate online news outlet said.
