Dengue has hit Rawalpindi hard, with 110 new cases reported in just one day – the highest number this year.

This brings the total number of dengue patients in 2024 to 960. Most of the cases in the last 24 hours came from Pothohar Town, with 54 reported there. Another 17 cases were found in the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board area.

The District Health Authority of Rawalpindi shared that 185 patients are currently being treated in local hospitals. In response to the rise in cases, the Authority has increased efforts to raise public awareness and enforce dengue prevention rules. Dr. Asif Arbab Niazi, CEO of the Health Authority, is personally leading these efforts.

He visited bus stands, distributed mosquito repellents, and organized a dengue awareness campaign at Pirwadhai. Dr. Niazi also led a car rally featuring vehicles displaying dengue awareness posters, driving through residential areas to spread the message. In a conversation with APP, Dr. Niazi mentioned that while overall dengue cases are fewer this year, the disease is still a serious concern, especially for young people.
