A sweeping operation against electricity thieves and defaulters is going on in MEPCO region. During recent raids, 140 individuals were apprehended in a single day for involvement in electricity theft, while investigations have identified over 10,000 individuals linked to such illicit activities. So far 954 electricity thieves have been arrested in MEPCO region and a fine of Rs 307.6 million has been imposed. During the recovery campaign in South Punjab, 12.68 million rupees were collected in a single day, which took the total collection to 1.12 billion rupees. During the campaign, the electricity of 984 non-performing agricultural tube wells was disconnected by remote control system while the electricity of 225 agricultural consumers was cut off by cutting jumpers. Transformers and meters from hundreds of defaulter industries and tubewells in the MEPCO region have also been dismantled.
