ECP directs Interior Ministry, Islamabad Admin to submit local body delimitation records within 3 daysThe Election Commission of Pakistan has directed the Ministry of Interior and the Chief Commissioner Islamabad to submit key administrative and delimitation records related to town corporations within three days, as deadlines previously set have already expired.
According to officials, the ECP has sought a formal notification of the boundaries of town corporations along with an immediate submission of the number of union councils in each town corporation. The Commission has also requested certified maps of town corporations, including details of census charges, circles, and blocks to complete the delimitation framework for local government elections in Islamabad.
Officials said that during a meeting held on May 13, the Islamabad administration was given 10 days to provide the required documentation. However, the stipulated timeframe has passed without compliance. In its latest directive, the ECP has once again instructed the relevant authorities to furnish all requested documents within three days. The Commission has also indicated that in case of continued delay, it may consider draft legislation related to Islamabad local government elections due to the non-provision of essential records.
Furthermore, the ECP has directed the relevant standing committee to review the draft legislation and urged the federal cabinet to expedite amendments to the relevant rules to facilitate the electoral process. Officials said the timely provision of delimitation data is crucial for the smooth conduct of upcoming local government elections in the federal capital.
