Pakistan Govt To Introduce Regulations for Cryptocurrency & Blockchain TechnologyThe Federal Government of Pakistan has initiated the process of reviewing proposals to regulate cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, aiming to introduce legislation soon. According to Express News, the government plans to present the Virtual Assets Bill 2025 to regulate cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Senator Dr. Afnan Ullah Khan from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) has introduced a private member bill, titled 'Virtual Assets Bill 2025'. The proposed legislation will not only standardize the usage, trading, and regulations of cryptocurrencies and virtual assets but also introduce a digital currency backed by the Pakistani Rupee, granting it legal status under State Bank regulations. The bill aims to bring the operations, trading, and usage of virtual assets within a legal framework in Pakistan. It proposes the establishment of 'Virtual Asset Zones' to ensure financial stability, protect investors, prevent illicit activities, and provide legal recognition to digital currencies. The bill outlines criteria and guidelines for the registration and licensing of virtual currency exchanges, virtual asset providers, and virtual currency zones. It also mandates adherence to laws against money laundering and terrorist financing. The bill will implement a system of regular audits and reporting for all relevant institutions to ensure transparency in the virtual currency market, thereby fostering public confidence in the financial system.
