The email, signed by “an unexpected delegation,” was sent from a riseup.net address. Riseup.net, a Seattle-based collective, states that it provides “communication and computer resources to allies engaged in struggles against capitalism and other forms of oppression.” Since riseup.net is US-based, French police have asked the FBI to press the organization to identify the email account holder, according to the two sources who spoke with Reuters. The FBI declined to comment, and Riseup did not respond to an emailed request for comment.Advertisement
In a 2020 interview with the Belarusian anarchist group Pramen, Riseup stated that it had never complied with a foreign legal request.
