The tallies, using data collected by AFP from national authorities and information from the World Health Organization , probably reflect only a fraction of the actual number of infections.Since 1900 GMT Tuesday, 6,221 new deaths and 72,738 new cases were recorded worldwide. Italy, which recorded its first death in late February, has had the most fatalities with 17,669, as well as 139,422 infections.The death toll in the United States is now the third highest, at 13,829 for 404,352 infections—the highest number of cases in the world.
China—excluding Hong Kong and Macau—has to date declared 3,333 deaths and 81,802 cases, with 77,279 recoveries.
