US dollar rate in Pakistan on July 24 up by Re0.10 to Rs278.50ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government has decided to relinquish its responsibility for setting petroleum prices, opting instead to delegate this authority to oil marketing companies.

Following the prime minister’s directive, Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik has called for an important meeting on Thursday to discuss the details of this plan. In a statement, Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Chairman Abdul Sami Khan opposed the likely move, stating that it would result in increased prices of petroleum products in remote areas.
