UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pledged to international community on Friday for strengthened support and more funding for the United Nations Relief And Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the near East (UNRWA) for its indispensable role in the Gaza strip.

Guterres made the remarks at a UNRWA pledging conference held at the UN Headquarters in New York city. The conference was scheduled in light of unrwa's severe financial crisis. The agency announced earlier on Wednesday that its funds for sustaining vital operations will only last until the end of August.
All participants observed a minute of silence for the innocent civilians and UNRWA staff killed in the ongoing Palestine-Israel conflict. Guterres said that it is high time for Israel and Palestine to "finally reach a deal", as some 195 UNRWA staff members have been killed during the conflict.
