Just scoring goals not enough for Chelsea, says Maresca
- Chelsea are scoring goals for fun but still have many areas to work on if they hope to match up to the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, manager Enzo Maresca said on Friday ahead of a Premier League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.
They have found the net 57 times in 22 matches across all competitions this season, their best-ever goals-per-game ratio in a campaign. "I don't think we are there and ready to compete with Arsenal, Liverpool and City. We have to do many more things good, not just score goals. Avoid conceding goals," Maresca told reporters."We are not thinking about April, May or June. It's too early. Things can change quick in football. The focus is Sunday, today's session and tomorrow's session."
Asked which version of Spurs he expected to face, Maresca said: "They have very good players and a very good manager. What kind of problems they have, I don't know. But they are a fantastic team. The Italian manager also elaborated on his comments about Noni Madueke, who he previously criticised for not training consistently despite the winger being named player of the match in the win over Southampton.
