Komal Rani responds to criticism over her association with Govinda and her appearance with the actor at Lalbaugcha Raja.
Actress Komal Rani has responded strongly to celebrities who criticised her association with Bollywood star Govinda, questioning why their personal lives have become a subject of public scrutiny.
Komal’s remarks came after her appearance with the 63-year-old actor at Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja, following which Divya Khossla Kumar and Kashmera Shah publicly voiced support for Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja. In a lengthy Instagram Stories post, Komal claimed that some celebrities had been openly commenting on her personal life and character. She questioned why the same people had not been equally vocal about other serious issues involving terrorism, politics, the deaths of actors or celebrity marriages.
“Why, then, has our personal life suddenly become such a public spectacle that everyone feels entitled to comment on it? ” she wrote. Addressing her appearance alongside Govinda at Lalbaugcha Raja, Komal rejected suggestions that the visit was intended to create publicity around their relationship.
She said she had accompanied Govinda to seek blessings from Ganpati Bappa and pray for the success of her upcoming film“Since when did going before Ganpati Bappa alongside my Hero and praying for the success of my upcoming film, 'Roopa', become a matter of shame, a national issue or 'Dikhawa' for others? ” she wrote.
Komal added that the film had been announced rather than a romantic relationship, arguing that female actors routinely appear alongside their male co-stars during film promotions. The actress also criticised what she described as celebrities attempting to remain relevant by becoming involved in other people’s controversies. Without naming individuals in the quoted remarks, Komal referred to actresses with “washed-out brand tags” and warned that their own pasts could come under scrutiny if they continued commenting on her situation.
