Lahore traffic police enforced heavy fines totalling Rs60.6 million and impounded over 33,000 smoke-emitting vehicles in a six-month-long smog remediation campaign, following the orders of the Lahore High Court, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Amara Athar, 15,701 vehicles have been impounded in various police stations and sectors due to hazardous smoke emissions. The crackdown also extended to vehicles without proper fitness certificates. A total of 14,255 vehicles in poor condition were fined, and 183 vehicles were stopped for possessing fake fitness certificates.
