Published: 11:49 AM, 6 Aug, 2026Acclaimed Pakistani novelist Umera Ahmed has urged readers and content creators to stop using artificial intelligence to recreate scenes from her legendary novel Peer-e-Kamil, saying such visuals diminish the emotional and spiritual experience the book was intended to offer.

Taking to Instagram, Umera Ahmed shared a series of notes requesting readers and social media pages to refrain from generating or sharing AI-created images, videos, and reels based on her novels, particularly Peer-e-Kamil.

"Dear Readers, We are truly grateful for your tremendous love and support for Umera Ahmed's novels. We have been noticing a lot of AI-generated images, videos, and reels trying to depict scenes, characters, and dialogues from the novels. We kindly ask all the content creators and pages to not generate or share any AI visuals of Umera Ahmed's work.

It is a very personal experience that literature cultivates within you when you read a novel, and AI content deprives you of that deep connection. Especially in the case of Peer-e-Kamil , we feel that no one should dilute the beauty and sanctity of such a deep, sensitive, and spiritual tale through AI visuals. We value the tremendous creativity and energy that goes into developing and running these wonderful pages.

But it would be a great shame if people started diluting the beautiful words of Umera Ahmed. Let the magic of her words touch you and everybody else, just the way it is meant to.

" Her message quickly gained widespread support from readers, with many agreeing that iconic literary works should remain open to individual imagination rather than being visually interpreted through artificial intelligence. One reader commented:"Finally you said that. As a reader, I was literally getting irritated by this, even the fake rumours that Peer-e-Kamil is going to get a serial. Thanks for this.

" Another wrote:"As a reader who does not feel that AI should be diluting every aspect of our experiences, this was very much needed. " A third added:"I completely support your request. Some masterpieces should remain in the hearts and imaginations of readers.

" Umera Ahmed is regarded as one of Pakistan's most celebrated contemporary authors, known for penning bestselling novels including Peer-e-Kamil, Aab-e-Hayat, Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan, La Hasil, and Shehr-e-Zaat. Many of her works have been successfully adapted into television dramas, while Peer-e-Kamil continues to enjoy cult status among readers for its profound spiritual themes, unforgettable characters, and timeless storytelling.
