US authorities have launched a major immigration enforcement campaign known as"Operation Checkmate", resulting in the arrest of dozens of truck drivers allegedly residing or working in the country without proper legal authorisation.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel report, the operation was carried out as part of a broader effort by American immigration authorities to identify individuals suspected of violating immigration and transportation regulations. The US Customs and Border Protection said that 36 truck drivers were detained during the operation. Officials reported that at least 30 of those arrested were Indian nationals.
According to reports published by the Times of India, US authorities stated that several of the detainees were allegedly operating commercial vehicles without valid driving licences or the required legal documentation. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those detained, and deportation measures are reportedly being prepared in accordance with US immigration laws.
Acting Chief Patrol Agent Dustin Caudle of the Yuma Sector said individuals residing or working in the United States unlawfully could pose public safety concerns, particularly when involved in commercial transportation activities. The development comes amid broader efforts by the United States to strengthen immigration enforcement and address concerns related to document fraud, illegal employment and border security.
Reports also indicate that several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Canada and the United States, have deported foreign nationals in recent years for various immigration-related violations, including the use of fraudulent documentation and breaches of local laws. According to figures cited from Indian authorities, more than 171,000 Indian citizens were deported from 52 countries between 2021 and 2025.
However, the reasons for deportation vary significantly and may include immigration violations, visa overstays, employment-related offences and other legal matters. Immigration experts note that increasing international migration pressures, economic factors and stricter border enforcement measures have contributed to a rise in deportation cases across many countries in recent years.
