Polling is being held at National Assembly as well as Sindh and Balochistan assemblies
ISLAMABAD - Polling for by-election on six seats of the Senate begins in the federal capital and provincial assemblies.
The Senate will elect on Thursday six members on the seats vacated by the senators who moved to the National Assembly after winning the Feb 8 general elections. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan , polling will be held at the National Assembly as well as at Sindh and Balochistan assemblies. The polling will start at 9am and continue till 4pm. The ECP has already dispatched ballot papers and other polling material to the provincial assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan. Polling will be held for one seat reserved in Islamabad and two general seats in Sindh, as well as three general seats for representing Balochistan.
Among those who vacated their seats were Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, who have joined the National Assembly following their victory in the general elections. Similarly, Nisar Ahmed Khoro and Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar were elected to the Sindh Assembly, while, Prince Ahmed Umer Ahmedzai and Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti became members of the Balochistan Assembly. There are seven contestants for three Balochistan seats. Former chief minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo is the PPP candidate while Mir Dosteen Domki is the PML-N nominee. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has nominated Abdul Shakoor while BAP has issued tickets to Kahda Babar and Mubeen Khilji.
