ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid tribute to Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed on the 53rd anniversary of his martyrdom, recognising his valor and sacrifice to safeguard the country.
They prayed to Allah Almighty for the elevation of the rank of Lance Naik Mahfuz Shaheed in paradise. ,” the president remarked.

He fought in the 1965 and 1971 wars and was the only person to receive both Sitara-e-Jurat and Nishan-e-Haider. On December 6, 1971, he embraced martyrdom near the Sulemanki Headworks, killing 43 Indian soldiers and destroying four tanks. He was laid to rest in Lahore's Miani Sahab graveyard.
