The Punjab government has decided to revise the educational curriculum from nursery to grade 12, with changes expected to be introduced in phases after a detailed review.
According to the report, the curriculum from nursery to grade 12 will be changed under the new plan. The revised curriculum will be introduced in two phases. In the first phase, the curriculum from nursery to grade 12 will be reviewed and changed, while the second phase will also focus on further changes up to grade 12, according to the details shared. Officials are considering reducing several topics from the primary-level curriculum.
The move is aimed at easing the academic burden on students, especially in early grades. The authorities are also considering the inclusion of new topics related to innovation and the environment in the curriculum. Musa Ali Bukhari, CEO of PECTA, said changing the curriculum is a time-consuming process. He said it would be premature to implement the new curriculum from the next academic year.
He added that introducing the revised syllabus too quickly may not be practical. Bukhari said Punjab’s existing curriculum places a heavy burden on students. He compared local learning expectations with international standards, saying that globally, children in grade one are usually taught counting from one to twenty. Curriculum to be brought to global standards Bukhari said the goal is to bring Punjab’s curriculum closer to global standards.
He said this would help students study in a better and more effective way. The planned changes are expected to focus on reducing unnecessary workload, improving learning outcomes and introducing modern subjects that prepare students for future challenges.
