Animal husbandry is a significant part of the rural economy in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD – The population of donkeys in Pakistan has jumped to 5.9 million during the fiscal year 2023-24 as their number sees a consistent rise during the last few years.
The figures show the population of donkeys has been on the rise during the past few years as there were 5.5 million in 2019-2020, 5.6 million in 2020-21, 5.7 million in 2021-22, 5.8 million in 2022-23 and 5.9 million this year. However, there has been no change in the number of horses and mules for the last five years which remain at 0.4 million, and 0.2 million, respectively.
Animal husbandry is a significant part of the rural economy, with more than 8 million rural families engaged in livestock production business.
