The bills will be sent to President Asif Ali Zardari for presidential assent.
ISLAMABAD - Remaining impervious to strong criticism from journalists, human rights organizations and opposition benches, the Senate on Tuesday approved a couple of controversial bills which include the amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act Bill and the Digital Nation Bill.
The bills which kept the government and the opposition at daggers drawn for weeks were moved by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain on behalf of Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control who is currently in the United States on a visit.
The Pakistan Peoples Party which is also also an ally of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz led government in the center, also voted in favour of the bills while the PTI opposed the bill.
