Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 45 runs in the rain-interrupted first one-day international.
Dambulla – Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando both slammed centuries to set up a convincing 45-run victory for Sri Lanka in the rain-interrupted first one-day international against New Zealand on Wednesday.
The Kiwis started off confidently but then lost five wickets in less than five overs for the addition of just 22 runs. From there on, it was downhill all the way for the visitors as the rest of the batsmen failed to live up to the task. "I thought it will be tough for us and it also didn't turn too much," said Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka.For Avishka, it was his first century since 2021, breaking a dry spell after a string of low scores.
