Sabitzer Snatches Austria Win in Euros group stage against the Netherlands, securing a crucial victory.
Marcel Sabitzer lashed home to earn Austria a thrilling 3-2 win against the Netherlands on Tuesday and send his team through top of Euro 2024 Group D, ahead of tournament favourites France and the third-place Dutch.
"We started weakly... we were too weak in the duels, I have no explanation for that at the moment," Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk told Dutch television."We are all responsible for this -- there is not one or two guilty people... if we want to achieve anything in this tournament, something has to change."
Austria's campaign started with a 1-0 defeat to France after Max Wober put through his own net but the tournament's seventh own goal made them far happier. Koeman seethed on the touchline and flung his arms down in frustration as Malen sent a bobbling shot beyond the far post when well placed. The former Barcelona coach brought on Xavi Simons after only 34 minutes for midfielder Joey Veerman to add more spark and creativity to his team's disjointed display.
