LCWU students protest harassment by a clerk, demanding justice and reforms in university policies to prevent future incidents.
The management of the Lahore College for Women University had to close the university’s entry and exit points on Monday after scores of the university students protesting against incidents of harassment at the campus tried to take out a rally on the Jail Road, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. They lamented that they were not safe even at the institution which was meant for females.
The protestors, who blocked the Jail Road, alleged that most of the incidents of rape were reported during 2022-23. They said that a second-year student who had come to take the evening class last Thursday was also subjected to rape. The protestors said that while those who were raped later left the institution as their future was destroyed, the culprits still roamed about freely in the university.
They appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take notice of these incidents since Dr. Uzma Qureshi was not taking any action against those involved in the heinous crime despite having been informed several times.Largest-ever cohort of women authors shortlisted for 2024 BookerPunjab Governor Sardar Saleem assures appointment of VCs on merit
