ATLANTA – Tropical Storm Debby brought unrelenting rain to the US Southeast as it drifted off the Carolina s on Wednesday, threatening the region with dangerous flooding before picking up speed in the coming days and moving north.
"All North Carolinians across our state need to be prepared for a deluge," North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said at a briefing at the state's Department of Emergency Management on Wednesday. Debby was about 25 miles east-northeast of Charleston late Wednesday and moving about 3 miles per hour toward the north-northwest, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph . It was forecast to make landfall again further north in South Carolina early Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said.
