Trump unveils $500 billion AI initiative with SoftBank, Oracle, and OpenAI
WASHINGTON United States President Donald Trump announced a major initiative to build infrastructure for artificial intelligence , led by Japan’s SoftBank, cloud giant Oracle , and ChatGPT creator OpenAI.
The project, called Stargate, will focus on creating the physical and virtual infrastructure to support next-generation AI advancements. The venture aims to initially invest $100 billion, with the potential to reach up to $500 billion over the next four years.OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle's founder Larry Ellison also attended the announcement and praised Trump on their respective social media handles.
Ellison highlighted AI’s potential in medical advancements, such as early cancer detection through blood tests. Following the news, SoftBank’s stock surged more than eight percent in Tokyo. The project is already underway in Texas, which is becoming an alternative hub for major tech investments, and the team is considering further locations for additional campuses across the country.
