He made it clear that cooperation between Ankara and Islamabad is based on long-standing ties and mutual respect. According to the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, Fidan stated that India should not treat Turkiye’s friendship with Pakistan as an unfriendly act. He said such relations are normal between sovereign countries and should not create tension. He further explained that Turkiye and Pakistan have maintained strong political, diplomatic and defence relations for many decades.
He also reaffirmed that Turkiye continues to hold a supportive position on the Kashmir issue in line with Pakistan’s stance. According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the remarks have drawn attention among political observers, who say the statement highlights both the depth of Turkiye-Pakistan relations and India’s concerns about them. Analysts believe India often views close relations between Pakistan and other countries with suspicion. Experts further suggest that Fidan’s comments point to broader weaknesses in India’s foreign policy approach.
They argue that treating independent diplomatic relations as hostility can limit international cooperation. The statement was delivered during a lecture organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Singapore, where wider global diplomatic issues were also discussed. Observers add that the comments underline a growing message in international relations: countries should be free to maintain their own diplomatic partnerships without external pressure or misunderstanding.
