The rise of online gambling is closely related to the increase in online loans. The government is considered slow in moving to overcome this increasingly rampant phenomenon.
The Financial Services Authority has received a letter from the Ministry of Communication and Information to freeze a number of accounts involved in online gambling activities. This is in accordance with Article 36A paragraph letter c, number 33 in Article 14 and Article 52 paragraph letter c number 42 in Article 15 of Law Number 4 of 2023 concerning Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector , OJK has the authority to order banks to block certain accounts.
Responding to this, economist and digital economy researcher at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance , Nailul Huda, believes that the OJK's move should have been taken a long time ago. The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center had, in fact, already started analyzing the flow of money related to online gambling.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, said that this instruction gives time so that the mechanism for blocking sites and online gambling uploads can be carried out more effectively. The capacity to detect, search, identify and take down"We use artificial intelligence to speed up this identification process, then double-check which sites and accounts are active for online gambling activities," said Nezar.
