The government has increased the amount of SPHP rice to be distributed through wholesale and retail markets to 100,000 tons. The hope is that the increase in rice prices can be controlled.
President Jokowi, according to the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, asked thatdue to rising prices of rice and several commodities such as sugar and corn be controlled before the end of this year."Basically, it can be completed by the end of this year, in the next month or two," he told journalists after a closed meeting regarding rice price stabilization led by the President at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday .
The number of regencies/cities that have experienced an increase in the price of rice is also growing. In the first week of September 2023, there were 230 areas that experienced a rise in the price of rice. In the third week, the number of these regions increased to 284., a large rice producing area in West Java, is in fourth place out of ten districts/cities with the highest increase in the price development index .
The food assistance rice for low-income families is still distributed to 21.3 million families, each of which receives 10 kilograms per month. Therefore, approximately 210,000 tons of food assistance rice are distributed each month.The Head of the Operational Planning and Public Service Division at Perum Bulog, Epi Sulandari, explained the stock of Bulog rice in the online inflation control meeting held by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday .
From an inflation standpoint, Airlangga mentioned that the impact of rice prices on inflation this month is still 0.05 percent. Overall inflation is also considered to be below 3 percent.Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, during a coordination meeting for regional inflation control on Monday , also requested local governments to hold a Cheap Food Movement if commodity prices increase.
