According to an official statement, the meeting reviewed ongoing reform efforts, particularly within the Federal Board of Revenue . The finance minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing technology-driven changes, including automation and digitalisation, to improve tax collection and transparency. The World Bank delegation assured continued technical support for Pakistan’s Medium-Term Revenue Strategy and reform initiatives within the FBR. These efforts are seen as critical to enhancing revenue mobilisation and ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability.

Aurangzeb emphasised that the government’s economic agenda is centred on export-led, sustainable growth, improving the business climate and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. He noted that structural reforms are essential to stabilise the economy and promote resilience. The discussion also highlighted the need to strengthen domestic debt management and develop capital markets. The finance minister stressed reducing reliance on bank financing by expanding alternative funding sources, which could support private sector growth and reduce pressure on the banking system.

Participants further exchanged views on a range of key areas, including tax policy reforms, public debt management, private sector development and improving the efficiency of state institutions. These reforms are part of a broader strategy to modernise Pakistan’s economic framework and align it with international best practices. The World Bank delegation included senior officials such as Bolormaa Amgaabazar, Tobias Haque, Anna Tom and Raffaele Khan, among others.
