Meta is reportedly building an AI-powered pendant and expanding its smart glasses lineup as it pushes deeper into wearable technology.
Qatar allows temporary toll tax on ships passing Strait of Hormuz Meta is reportedly working on a new AI-powered pendant that users could wear around their neck or attach to their clothing, marking the latest step in the company's growing focus on artificial intelligence-enabled hardware.
According to an internal memo viewed by The Information, the social media giant plans to begin testing the wearable device within the next year. The reported AI pendant is expected to build on technology developed by Limitless, an AI device startup that Meta acquired in late 2025. Limitless had developed a wearable AI pendant designed to record and process conversations.
Users could clip the device onto their shirt or wear it as a necklace, allowing the AI assistant to capture and organize spoken interactions. The move comes as technology companies continue searching for the next major consumer device powered by artificial intelligence.
However, previous AI wearables have struggled to gain widespread adoption. Industry observers have pointed to privacy concerns, limited real-world usefulness and marketing missteps as key reasons why earlier products failed to attract consumers. Despite these challenges, major technology firms remain committed to developing AI hardware. Companies across the sector, including OpenAI, are continuing to invest in wearable AI devices as they look for new ways to integrate artificial intelligence into daily life.
The memo also reportedly outlines broader ambitions for Meta's wearable technology business. In addition to the AI pendant, the company is said to be planning an expansion of its AI-powered smart glasses lineup. Meta is also reportedly preparing to launch a new subscription service called"Wearables for Work," targeting enterprise and workplace users. The initiative could help Meta strengthen its position in the emerging AI wearables market while creating new revenue streams beyond advertising.
The reported plans come as Meta seeks to improve the performance of its hardware-focused division, Reality Labs. The division, which oversees the company's virtual reality, augmented reality and wearable technology projects, reportedly lost $4 billion during the first quarter of the year. By expanding its portfolio of AI-powered devices, Meta appears to be aiming to revive growth within Reality Labs and establish a stronger foothold in the future of personal computing. Meta has not officially confirmed the reported plans.
TechCrunch said it had contacted the company for comment. If testing moves forward as expected, the AI pendant could become Meta's latest attempt to bring artificial intelligence into everyday consumer devices, joining its growing ecosystem of smart glasses and other wearable technologies. Brilliant has launched an AI tutor based on the Socratic method, aiming to strengthen students’ thinking and problem-solving skills rather than provide direct answers.

Israeli PM directs military to expand control to 70% of GazaIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he has ordered the military to expand its control in Gaza to about 70 percent of the territory, building on existing control of around 64 percent. This comes despite an October US-brokered truce that was meant to limit Israeli control to a 'Yellow Line' covering 53 percent. Reuters reported Israel unilaterally moved boundary markers deeper into Hamas-held areas, and maps now show restricted areas covering about 64 percent. Netanyahu stated from a West Bank settlement that the directive is to move from 50 to 60 and now to 70 percent control, describing seized areas in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon as 'buffer zones' to prevent militant attacks after the Oct 7 Hamas assault.
