Govt springs into action to stop PTI protest at Islamabad's D-Chowk
ISLAMABAD - A day after Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to put off its scheduled protest till Oct 17 and warned its leadership of stringent action in case it didn't defer its march towards the twin cities, the federal government sprang into action by blocking all roads leading to Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
All important thoroughfares of the capital and garrison city were sealed by placing containers. As much as 20 meters long container-wall was placed at the zero point whereas Faizabad was closed by double-layered heavy containers. Sirinagar Highway which was previously known as Kashmir Highway was blocked from various points. Similarly Islamabad Expressway was condoned off from Khanna Bridge to Faisal Mosque while D-Chowk, Serena Chowk and Nadra Chowk were also covered with containers.All private schools remained close on Oct 4 ahead of the PTI's expected protest at D-Chowk.
The Islamabad Private Schools Association had earlier decided to close all private schools due to volatile situation created ahead of protest in Islamabad.On the other hand, Metro Bus administration also announced to suspend its services from Saddar station to the IJP road.Besides, Islamabad-Lahore Motorway was sealed for traffice as the Lahore city administration placed more than 12 containers at the Babu Sabu Interchange with heavy contingents of police patrolling to arrests the PTI workers.
