According to a notification issued by the Judicial Commission, the number of candidates under consideration has increased to nine with the inclusion of two additional nominees: Sardar Akbar Ali Dogar Advocate and Malik Waqar Haider Awan Advocate. These names will join the previously nominated seven candidates: Malik Owais Khalid Advocate, Muhammad Jawad Zafar Advocate, Ali Masood Hayat Advocate, Ziaur Rehman Advocate, Siddique Awan Advocate, Hasan Nawaz Makhdoom Advocateand Aamir Anjum Malik Advocate.
The Lahore High Court has not seen the appointment of new judges for the past three years, resulting in a significant shortage. While the sanctioned strength of judges in the LHC is 60, only 35 judges are currently serving, leaving 25 vacancies. The meeting on December 14 is expected to address this critical shortfall, which has placed an increased burden on the existing judges and slowed down judicial proceedings.
