Regretting that the party’s experience of entering into alliances with other parties in the recent past was not a good one, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Chief and veteran politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Tuesday that the party would launch an anti-government movement on its own, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Talking to newsmen at his residence in Dera Ismael Khan, he said that neither the party wanted to embarrass others nor get embarrassed itself. “However, there could be alliances with other parties on any issue,” Fazl explained. “Not only will we play the role of an opposition inside the parliament but also outside the parliament,” he said, and added, “This is for the first time in the country’s history that the establishment has taken its internal matters seriously.”The veteran politician was of the view that the parliament had lost its importance following the 2018 general elections. “It is democracy that is at the receiving end in today’s politics,” he opined.
Fazl said that ever since the 2018 elections, political engineering had been going on. “In the general elections of 2024, however, the results were completely changed,” he said, adding, “Now tell me who would do politics in this situation.” He said that political instability impacted the country’s economic development. “If the state is weakened, we have a situation like it was in Bangladesh where the government was sent home within 20 days since it did not enjoy the people’s mandate,” the JUI-F chief said.
