Requests the court to annul the notification of Section 144
A citizen filed the application through Azhar Siddique advocate, making the Punjab government, Punjab Home Secretary and deputy commissioners respondents.
The citizen contended that Section 144 was imposed across the Punjab on the political grounds to thwart a political party, Pakistan Tehreek Insaf for staging public gathering. The petitioner requested the court to declare the notification of Section 144 imposition null and void.It is pertinent to note that PTI was all set to hold a public gathering in Islamabad today but postponed it to avoid chaos as a religious party had staged sit-in the capital.The ban will be applied from Thursday, August 22 to Saturday, August 24. It is said the ban was imposed to counter terror threats.
The government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 across the province and banned all kinds of gatherings including rallies, sit-ins and protests. The Home Department has issued a notification.
